Disheartening news for Indians as Govt. ordered block on 857 porn sites – ISP Confirms

While people were busy planning for their weekend, the Indian Government seems to have very snakily cast the final stone in moral policing – a porn ban.

Users complained that several adult websites, even if they did not have pornographic content, were blocked. They also said the government was using concern over child porn as an excuse to crack down on adult websites and intrude into the private space of citizens.

Several popular websites like Pornhub.com, Brazzers.com, Redtube.com, Bangbros.com have already been blocked and the websites been replaced with a single line message:

“This site has been blocked as per the instructions of Competent Authority”

It looks like the Indian government is on a banning spree. After monitoring the use of swear words in films, banning beef in some states and a proposed ban on alcohol, reports have emerged that the government may have unofficially banned porn.

According to Scroll India, “These messages mostly appeared for subscribers to Mahanagar Telephone Limited, Bharatiya Sanchar Nigam Limited, Vodafone and ACT. However, those using Airtel, Tikona and a few other cable networks experienced no such problems.”

Social media reacts strongly

The matter was first raised on Twitter when disgruntled and amused Indians vented on social media, condemning the blocks.

While the idea of a pornography ban has had its supporters in India, the online community has largely criticized the developments, questioning the purpose and the benefit to society as a whole.

The ambiguity of the top judicial body’s response has sparked speculation over the role the government had to play in pushing the ban through. Reddit user BassistEddie wrote: “First, we have to know if it’s really government who has banned them, because Supreme Court has refused to ban them, saying that it will be a violation of Article 21, the right to personal liberty.”

Two things can never be banned in India: The indomitable spirit of the Indian youth & porn. (because of the indomitable spirit). There has been no Govt announcement on this at the time. We’ll keep you updated.

Till then enjoy your porn popcorn 🙂
